About Us

Hi - and welcome to the website of Leicestershire's leading junior rugby club.

We are still adding material to the site and welcome your feedback on what you see.

Founded in 1919 South Leicester has just enjoyed another hugely successful season with the First Team achieving a fifth place finish after their first season in Midlands 1, the Seconds winning Leicestershire Division 1 and the Thirds gaining promotion to Leicestershire 3 after their inaugural season of league rugby. Our young Colts side won 13 of its 23 fixtures and look set to blossom next season. Key successes in our Mini and Juniors have been those of the under 16's in their last year of junior rugby and the growth of our under 13's and under 11's who are showing real promise. We shall be strong at all age groups from under 7 to under 12 in the minis next season and welcome new members at all times at  mini, junior and senior level

Vets Clinch Cup Hat-Trick in Close Encounter

After a hard fought first half which saw the sides turn around level at 5 points each, the Vets took control and ran out 20 points to 10 winners in their county final against the Vipers. Tries were scored by Guy di Salvo, who finished off a scintilating move in midfield from Nigel Wilford who then had to leave the field for oxygen and to eat his unfinished pudding from the referee's society dinner the night before, Pinno who finished a move that was rehearsed tirelessly in training every night this week and Daz Lee who will be interviewed by Dewi Morris on the Rugby Club (Sky Sports Thursday) to discus his chances of making Johnno's first squad.
Paul Hayes added a penalty and a conversion using a technique taken from studying hours of Dan Carter videos. Paul has now been confirmed as the club's kicking coach for next season and is looking forward to developing Mark Lord's potential.

End of Season Dinner with Leon Lloyd

14's add the icing on the cake

After a superb season for the 14's, the icing was well and truly applied to the cake today at the Syston sevens tournament. Syston had asked us to help out by fielding two teams in the competition. Perhaps they may think twice before doing this again!!! Not only did we win the 14's cup competition, but we also won the plate competition aswell ! Congratulations to all the lads who went over to Syston. There will be plenty of silverware on display at the end of season dinner !

Go Fourth and Multiply

South topped off their best season ever with a thoroughly deserved 18 points to 17 win against Loughborough Students to finish 4th in Midlands 1. The Twos clinched the Leicestershire 1 title after Hinckley conceded the league fixture in order to go and support their first team. One pot left to play for now as the Vets aim to secure the County Cup next Saturday. What a season!

Missing Belongings

During Saturday's match against Loughborough Students, some items of kit were taken from the changing room being used by the visitors. The missing items included a pair of trousers which had a player's house keys in the pocket. At this stage we do not know if this was a prank which went too far or a maliscious act of theft, either way it is unacceptable that a visiting player should have important personal belongings taken. If anyone knows the whereabouts of these items, could they please return them to the club house at the earliest opportunity.

14' fall just short in cup final

In a hard fought County cup final, the South 14,s fell just short of their goal at Market Harborough today (Sunday). Against a Market Bosworth side who have justifiably held the County crown for some time now, the South lads played with real grit and passion, never allowing the opposition to settle. The only scores that seperated the sides came in a five minute spell in the second half. Respect to the South squad, you have done the club proud and have put down a real marker for next season. Kings of the County

Last night South Leicester became the undisputed kings of senior rugby in Leicestershire when we took both the Colts and Senior County Cups at the Tigers Welford Road Ground. Both matches went down to the wire with Byran Measures landing an injury time penalty to secure a 10 nil win for the Colts against Market Bosworth and Mark Lord having to win the game twice in injury time, first with a magnificent pressure conversion and then again after the Students retook the lead with a Wilkinson in 2003 winner takes all drop goal at the death. The senior final was probably the best game of rugby seen on that ground this season and South proved their mettle coming back from a 15 points to 3 deficit to make it a perfect night and first ever cup double for the club. A more detailed report and pictures will be provided later.
